El pilar del Coaching radica en una realidad universal, la cual comprende la de todo ser humano, y ésta es, que estamos expuestos a un constante cambio, movimiento, evolución. Bajo esta consideración, no puede concebirse que una persona se mantenga estática y de hacerlo, irá en contra de la misma naturaleza, que debe ser, progreso, avance y transformación.
A partir de este concepto, el Coaching centra sus esfuerzos en activar la misma estructura interna de cambio a la que está llamada toda persona.
Remontémonos a Aristóteles, quien entendía el cambio y el movimiento como «el paso de lo que está en potencia a estar en acto»; pues precisamente esa potencia (potencial) de todo ser humano es la que se apela en cada proceso de Coaching: identificarla, activarla y aplicarla, de forma que se llegue al “acto”, y deje de ser una posibilidad a ser una realidad. Cada persona debe peguntarse: ¿cuál es mi verdadero potencial, cuál es mi verdadera capacidad, cuál es mi verdadera esencia? ¿cuál es mi poder interior real? Sin duda las respuestas en un principio resultan limitadas, considerando que no poseemos la cultura (costumbre) de hacernos estas preguntas y menos de respondérnoslas. Por fortuna, podemos echar mano del Coaching e iniciar una de las mayores y mejores prácticas humanas; cuestionarnos del sentido y camino de nuestras vidas y cómo estos pueden cambiar hasta alcanzar una dimensión de realización y plenitud.
Dos dificultades básicas presenta el Coaching y son la de identificar ese potencial y posteriormente, poderlo utilizar a través de actitudes y comportamientos poderosos y de esta forma alcanzar nuestros objetivos más trascendentes. El caso de profundizar en nuestro potencial dormido, el cual ha sido relegado, implica una inédita experiencia de conocernos en verdad, de dejar de concebirnos como seres limitados, de observar el panorama completo de nuestro ser, de dimensionar nuestro poder interior, de familiarizarnos del verdadero yo, plagado de recursos y capaz de transformar nuestras experiencias de vida en constantes logros, tan significativos que estaríamos ante la vida misma y no un asomo de ella.
¿Qué es un potencial descubierto? Es un recurso superior y fundamental que poseemos para actuar de forma distinta y mejor de cara a alguna situación particular al grado que vemos en ese comportamiento novedoso rutas para involucrarnos sustancialmente y no superficialmente. Actuar bajo comportamientos estereotipados deja de ser una opción y se convierte en una carga y que ya no lleva a nada si no a más de lo mismo y de lo cual ya esteremos hastiados. El potencial descubierto da paso a nuevos comportamientos, pero su novedad reside en el hecho de haber conectado con elementos interiores nuestros que pueden hacer de cada vivencia, una vivencia rica y más productiva.
Accesar a nuestro potencial es disponer de tesoros sin valuar en nuestras vidas. El cambio se fundamenta en movilizar estos tesoros para ocuparlos como medios facilitadores de nuestros fines.
El costo de no cambiar sin duda deberá pagarse en cualquier momento; nadie realmente puede ponderar el costo final que debemos cancelar aún si creemos que todo nos ha salido “bien”, ya que siempre gravitará la duda de cómo habría sido de haber actuado de forma distinta, utilizando nuestros mejores recursos, nuestro potencial real.
Una pregunta práctica con elevada repercusión es la siguiente: “¿estoy aportando lo mejor de mí en algún aspecto particular de mi vida: trabajo, familia, relaciones, etc.?” Sí la respuesta es negativa, estaremos confirmando que existe un potencial sin utilizar y el cual debemos identificar para desplegarlo apropiadamente.
Lo curioso que pese a responder a esta interrogante, de forma que tomamos conciencia que no estamos aportando lo mejor de cada uno/a, aun así permanecemos pasivos, como contemplando la respuesta pero sin actuar sobre ella. La fuerza del mal hábito, de la zona de comodidad y sobre todo el desconocimiento de cómo actuar, nos paraliza aunque tengamos ante nuestros ojos la invitación y la obligación para cambiar.
El extremo de no conocernos es que incluso llegamos a dudar de nuestro potencial, viéndolo como algo ideal creyendo que carecemos de facultades superiores. Lo cierto que aunque este dormido, allí se encuentra ese caudal de capacidades esperando su oportunidad. Darse dicha oportunidad o negársela, tendrá efectos permanentes en nuestra vida; es cuestión de elegir, los efectos positivos o su contrario.
